I could tell you about my website that got messed up by some Brazilian hackers. I could tell you about the major national website of one of my clients that went down when the weather got bad (literally). I could tell you about all the e-mail addresses of my brother that got spammed.
Instead, I’ll tell you about my 15 year old niece who was completing a term paper for her school, when she found out that it had been accidentally erased from her parent’s computer. She was really frustrated and angry about the loss of all those days of work. I felt so sorry for her. But, being the strong-minded girl she was, she worked deep into the night, skipping a few parties, in order to get her paper ready to hand in to her teacher, just in time.
Yet, all this agony could easily have been avoided if a proper backup had been made. It took me just a few minutes to install free software that does this automatically. Had this been done earlier, my niece would have been spared this waste of time. And she would have attended more parties as well!
